Bill: Death Penalty Reform Act of July 2175
Details
Submitted by[?]: Proletariat Revolution Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2176
Description[?]:
Given that the death penalty isn't always a solid deterrant in preventing crime from happening, despite that it serves to keep our prisons free from overcrowding, it has no othe purpose. For this reason, the death penalty could be applied more constructively and to those who have committed gross crimes against humanity, the government and the nation. Crimes against humanity include and are not limited to acts of terrorism, whether on a small scale or on a large scale, mass murder/serial murders, serial rapes and other crimes that seek to take the lives of many with a disregard for the laws of the land. Excluded from this are all crimes that don't result in deaths; all small-time crimes, white collar crimes and felonies that don't constutute treason, terrorism or murder. |

Old value:: The death penalty is applied for capital crimes.
Current: The death penalty is applied for capital crimes.

Message | We could suport if the description included a more exact defination of what the SLP considers crimes against mankind. By a strict enough application of the term, pickpocketing is a crime against a man, therefore doing it to 2 or more people is a crime against mankind. |

Message | We would also have liked to see a definition of what constitutes a crime against mankind. Furthermore we feel it is distasteful to see the SLP describe the current system as unconstuctive. What is unconstructive about removing serial murderers and rapists from our streets? As you have provided no definition of what is included in this bill, we hate to think that serial rapists may have the opportunity to reenter civil society, or be allowed to continue raping at leisure in prison, unpunished. |
