Bill: The Proposal Quota Reduction Act of 2175

Details

Submitted by[?]: The Mordusian Green Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2177

Description[?]:

Most parties do not come close to using their entire proposal quota each year, so it makes little sense to the DP to keep it at such a high number.

MessageWe do seem to have a packed floor at the moment and it is making it hard to keep track of bills. Decreasing the quota may help.

MessageThe DP is making a lot of proposals, are they sure they want to support this?

MessageYes, we do. We are making a lot of proposals in part to use all of our quota, but this is taxing - no pun intended. We would prefer not to have to make as many propositions per annum in order to fulfill our quotas.

MessageSo some of the parties on the left are perfectly willing to limit speech, as long as it serves their purposes.

MessageAh....as to the proposal limiting speech...most parties do not make the eight proposal they are given every year. So we don't understand why taking away what is not used can be construed as limiting freedom of speech. In fact, we are the only party that has come anywhere close to using all of our proposal quota.

Message"So we don't understand why taking away what is not used can be construed as limiting freedom of speech"
In other words, you change the definition to justify the result you want. How unsurprising.
It has become increasingly clear to the CLP, at least, that there is no point to attempting to engage in debate when there is no consistency to the arguments put forth by the left. On this and other bills this session, it has become apparent that too often the left take whatever result they want for the bill in question and figure out a justification for it, rather than applying consistent, well-thought-out standards to the issue.

MessageThe problem we see is that the vast number of bills filling up the floor at the moment is to the detriment of the political system. I can't spend a huge amount of time on particracy reading as many bills as I have to at the moment. Fewer bills would allow more chance to study the bills and give more reasoned debate. As it is someone can still build up 10 proposals.
