Message | Cannabis is legal in Mordusia. As such, there is no way to abuse growing industrial hemp. Banning it makes no more sense than banning wheat. The only reason that some councilmen might want to change that locally, would be to interfere with agriculture to serve their own personal interests. Why would we give them a choice which they can only do two things with - Continue the status quo, or abuse their power? |
Date | 11:55:07, January 26, 2006 CET | From | The Mordusian Green Party | To | Debating the The Local Regulation of Industrial Hemp Act of 2175 |
Message | We're not proposing a ban in industrial hemp. We simply believe the decision should be left up to the regional authorities not a central national government. We do not think this would leave to an abuse of power. |

Message | In fact, we trust the local governments in this matter a great deal more than we trust the national government. |

Message | But why give the power to regional government to ban hemp? It just opens up the possibility of adding another pointless layer of beurocracy. |

Message | It doesn't add a layer of bureaucracy, it shifts it from the national to the local, where it will be closer to the people the law will effect. |
Date | 17:23:59, January 27, 2006 CET | From | Socialist Front of Mordusia | To | Debating the The Local Regulation of Industrial Hemp Act of 2175 |
Message | The only reason local politicians would want to change this policy, would be to serve their own interests. Industrial hemp production can not be abused in Mordusia. Why should we hand this choice down to the local governments, when they could only want to change the standard because of corruption? Why do we want to open that door? Because it is a principle that the local governments should decide? In this instance, it is a principle which serves no goal at all, and can in no way lead to a better policy. Principles are good, when they serve a purpose. Principles for the sole sake of principles are just stupid. |
Date | 22:54:09, January 27, 2006 CET | From | The Mordusian Green Party | To | Debating the The Local Regulation of Industrial Hemp Act of 2175 |
Message | We want to change the level of governmental review of industrial hemp production because we believe, if the review is placed closer to the people - locally, that is - there is less chance of corruption and/or scandal. It is our stated principle that local government is better because it is and can be more responsive to the people than can national government. |
Date | 15:37:39, January 28, 2006 CET | From | Left-Hand Path | To | Debating the The Local Regulation of Industrial Hemp Act of 2175 |
Message | Your reasoning is flawed. No regulation means no possibility of government corruption, since there's no reason to bribe anyone. Since the only issue with industrial hemp is its close relation to cannabis, there is no reason for Mordusia to even care about hemp since cannabis is totally legal. |

Message | The Demarchy Party has, so far, done a good job at spouting out a lot of rhetoric and big words, but has failed at pointing out how exactly a change in policy could do any good. Nor has it found a way to refute what should be blatantly obvious to everyone - That no regulation excludes all possibility of corruption, and that making it a local decision opens the door for corruption. Does the DP intend to form a real argument, does it even have a real reasoning for this proposed policy-change, or is it just arguing it for the hell of it? |
