Bill: Budget proposal of October 2177
Details
Submitted by[?]: National Thomasian Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2178
Description[?]:
The Liberal Socialist Union propose to adjust the government's spending budget to better address the economic and social situation of the Mordusian Federal Republic. An extra 2 billion rupees have been given to Defense to pay for the state owned defense industries started under the Defense Development and Research Bill. 2 billion rupees are given to Health and Social Serivces to fund the new job seekers allowance and 2 billion rupees goes to Science and Technology to help with subsidees given under the Drug Research Bill of 2171 (Revision).
This lowers the surplus to 8 billion rupees from 14 billion but going by current growth rates the surplus will grow back to current levels within 4-6 years. As a cut in the surplus should speed economic growth it is expected that tax revenues will grow even faster than in the recent years so the return to current surplus levels should be towards the lower end of the 4-6 year estimate. |

From | The Mordusian Green Party | To | Debating the Budget proposal of October 2177 | Message | We reject the idea that more money needs to be given to National Defense. We have no enemies. If anything, we need to reduce our defense spending, and grant more to Health and Social Services and others of the like. |

From | Unio Liberál daď Ordio Mordusián | To | Debating the Budget proposal of October 2177 | Message | We are against spending increase. If we have a big surplus ,we should lower taxes. People will have more money in their pockets and demand will grow also. There is no need to press money into inefficient public sector. |

From | National Thomasian Party | To | Debating the Budget proposal of October 2177 | Message | :O the FPM? Welcome back!
As it is taxes are already very low across the board and funding needs to be increased in our opinion to decrease a balooning surplus and to ensure that the laws passed by the house are properly carried out. |

From | Left-Hand Path | To | Debating the Budget proposal of October 2177 | Message | We believe that a better way to shrink the surplus is to cut taxes, not raise spending. This is not our money, it's the people's. |

From | Left-Hand Path | To | Debating the Budget proposal of October 2177 | Message | The money does not belong to "the people" in general but to individual taxpayers. Government exists to protect the nation's rights and liberty, not to "invest" their money for them. It is especially not our job to take money from the people who earn it to pay for freebies for the people who do not. |

Random fact: RP laws follow the same passing rules as in-game variable laws. Laws that are not of a constitutional nature require a simple majority "Yes" vote from active parties currently holding seats. Laws that are of a constitutional nature require a 2/3 majority "Yes" vote from active parties currently holding seats. RP laws may be abolished a simple majority vote this applies to ANY RP law. |
