Bill: Noble Titles Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Uniunea Hosia Democrată

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 4121

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

The government's ability to bestow titles inevitably creates a climate that can encourage nepotism and corruption - or at least perceptions of nepotism and corruption.

Whilst we would not want to ban anybody from calling themselves "Lord so-and-so" or "Duchess of such-and-such" etc., I see no reason for the government to be involved in bestowing these titles.

Tibor Lengyel
Chairman of the Hosian Democratic Union

MessageMr. Speaker,

We bestowed titles to people of great importance. The Emperor of Indrala for example is the Lord Protector of the Kuzaki for all his support to the Kuzaki peoples.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Thank you for allowing the CUC to speak on this issue. While we will support this legislation, we believe that it doesn't go far enough. Titles of nobility, regardless of the justification for granting them, create the perception that certain citizens are entitled to more privilege based solely on a government-granted title. The CUC believes that the use of titles should be banned outright.
