Bill: RP - Roles in Congress Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Patriotic Party of Baltusia

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 4125

Description[?]:

OOC- Often under our presidential system the role of Congress is underplayed. Although, in reality, it is instrumental in driving through legislation (As in the US, which our system most resembles).

My thoughts were we could spice up Congress by adding several roles for parties to adopt.

The first two I thought of were that the leader of the biggest party in Congress could have the title Majority Speaker of the House; the leader of the biggest party from an opposing caucus would have the Minority Speaker of the House title.

So in the current situation (April 4124) the Patriotic Party Leader would be the Majority Speaker of the House and the RAC Party Leader would be the Minority Speaker.

Just as it has been in the US, it could mean that the largest party in the house does not necessarily support the president, so you could get an interesting situation develop there.

Obviously I am open to suggestions about these or any other titles before putting this to the vote. Also, as it is in essence an amendment to the constitution, it would require a 2/3rds majority to pass into law if it is moved to the vote.

Thanks.

MessageOk, thanks for the input. I'll put it to the vote then.

To clarify if the proposal passes Article 2 of the Constitution (entitled The Congress) will be amended thus:

Article 2.4 - The leader of the party with the largest number of seats in Congress shall be appointed as The Majority Speaker of the House. This applies unless that person is also elected The President, in which case he/she may nominate another member of their party to take on the role.

Article 2.5 - A Minority Speaker of the House will be appointed. This person is the leader of the biggest party from an opposing caucus to that of the Majority Speaker's party. This applies unless that person is also elected The President in which case he/she may nominate another member of their party to take on the role.

It will require 2/3rds majority of Congress to pass (467 seats), so if you like the idea please vote yes.

Thank you.
