Description[?]:

Monsieur le President,

I would like to set aside this time solely for the purpose of a debate between all parties on Rildanor's place in the world and our vision for international relations. I am most interested in hearing the opinion of the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, M. Flavie Arthur, but I am also interested in the opinions of the other parties in the Assemblée Nationale.

The reason that I set aside time for debate is because for a very long period of time, Rildanor has been almost silent in global affairs. Although we have a past of a strong military buildup at home, we lack a presence abroad, or even within the South Selayan region. (OOC: Again, the Rildanor newspaper in the forums has only 4 pages! You can write in the newspaper here: http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4427&start=30)

As for myself, I would like to see Rildanor take a stronger role abroad, first in regional affairs, which will require extensive diplomacy with Alduria, Kanjor, Saridan, and Mordusia. Second, deeper forays and greater involvement in global affairs, either through participation in trade deals with nations on other continents or more active participation in international organizations such as the World Congress (http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6912).

Once again, I am interested in your thoughts. With that, I yield.

MessageWe should not trouble ourselves unnecessarily in other nations' affairs militarily. We would like to see the Foreign Minister continue to push for ratifications of our Anti-Communism Treaty, as we did when we held the office. We do think more econic deals should be carefully negotiated. Involvement in other treaties should be mostly limited to benefitting Rildanor.

MessageMonsieur le Président,

I ask the members of this chamber whether it does not excite them when they hear our great anthem being played by a marching band? I ask the deputies of this assembly whether their hearts do not swell with pride upon hearing a fellow Rildanorian compatriot win a medal at an athletic competition? I ask my Rildanorean brothers and sisters whether, simply through the use of our beautiful Canrillaise language, whether they are not proud of this country we call home?

For me, it is all these things, and more. Yes, we may wish for nothing more than a safe home with bread on the table, but when do we begin dreaming? When do we respond to the calling of a higher power for our glorious nation to assume its natural role as one of those in league with the other superpowers of Terra? I wish to arouse these sentiments not only in this very chamber, but on all the streets of Rildanor, from Morbanaque to Meroix! It is more than just growing an economy with figures and statistics, and tallying off the latest GDP report. It is more than just expanding our armies and our navies and seeing them fight on the battlefields of men with the greatest valor to be seen! It is about being shamelessly proud of this nation which we claim as our own, and of ensuring the greatness of this country is echoed through the ages around Terra. It is being proud of who we are, of being proud of Rildanor!

This is the beginning of a new era, Monsieur le Président. This is an era of patriotic feelings; an era where men, women, and children must strive to do their best for the glory of this nation. Here and now, I make this my mission. Join me in this endeavor, and let us ensure that our flag is recognizable throughout the land, our anthem respected, and our people revered. Un peuple, un but, une foi. Tous ensemble!

I yield.

MessageOOC: The newest military and economic power rankings are out (these are voluntary, but are still a measure of where nations stand in the world). Rildanor has dropped from a strong military power to an average military power. We are also an average economic power. Now, within our own country, we might believe we're strong and such, but the fact is, most of the world does not see us that way. The only way for us to truly gain the respect and recognition of the international community is to open ourselves up to the world and to RP over a long period of time. In this way, we will truly move up in rankings.

MessageOOC: How would we increase our military and economic standings? And how common is roleplay in these regards- international roleplay of nations exerting military power or influence etc is very rare, isn't it? Or is it more common than I thought?

If you have any ideas / explanations with regards to this I'd be interested :p

MessageOOC: According to the forum post on the rankings, RP is the main factor, which can be used in conjunction with budgets/taxes/etc. Of course, forum newspaper RP is necessary for other nations to recognize Rildanor's place, which is why I have been active on it lately. Corporation RP also helps, which is why I created Groupe RSA, Rildanor's largest corporation and a major Terra-wide auto manufacturer.

Role play is actually very important. The World Congress Security Council slots come with access to the Security Council thread and allow for greater influence in world affairs.

Everybody else profits. Soldiers are the ones losing their lives, losing friends, having their lives disrupted. The real victims of American imperialism are its soldiers." - Fred Gardner
