Bill: Campaign Finance Freedom Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Parti Libératif

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 4155

Description[?]:

Whereas the current law of La République Socialiste Populaire Lourennais gives public funds to political campaigns while banning private contributions;
Whereas the public funding of political campaigns is a noble end, but the ban on private donations restricts the freedom of speech; and
Whereas the a mixed system that allows for either public funding or private funding would do more to promote the noble goals of Liberté, Egalité, and Communauté,

Therefore, be it Enacted by the Conseil National des Ouvriers:

Candidates that accept public funds cannot accept donations.

MessageThis will lead to a paradoxical situation in which the wealthiest candidates with the deepest pocketed donors will have an unfair advantage in elections, with everyone else relegated to a fixed sum of public money to spend. That's not freedom, that's counter-revolutionary bourgeois tyranny. The current system allows all candidates equal resources to compete in our nation's free and fair elections.

Random quote: Although I understand and respect the intentions behind the gesture, this is not something that is universally understood or appreciated, and it tends to give out a negative impression of our party. ~ Anton Weinreich, General Secretary of the Dorvish Communist Party, pleading with his members to stop burning the national flag
