Bill: Call for early elections, June 4158

Details

Submitted by[?]: Likatonia People's Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill requests an early election. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline. Elections will be held immediately if the bill passes.

Voting deadline: February 4159

Description[?]:

We, the Likatonia People's Party, call for early elections as soon as we can reach a consensus. How can we continue placing our trust in a President who can't even get a Cabinet appointed? Currently we don't have 6 Ministers and this is a recipe for disaster. This President has failed.

MessageOOC: There's actually a limit to the number of times you're allowed to call early elections. I'm not sure how many it is, but it might be worth checking out - you don't want to fall foul of it accidentally.

MessageThe CWA sees several problems with this Bill.

1) The Early Elections bill ends in February 4159. That means the new elections will occur in March of 4159 if this Bil runs full-term.

2) The next elections are in March of 4159 ANYWAY. This seems like wasteful legislation to us.

3) The empty seats in the Cabinet are the result of allowing every party to have Cabinet seats. Every party got seats, and then three of the parties retired from Likatonian politics. Clearly there is no point in making a Cabinet with parties that aren't interested in going the distance of one whole election cycle.

4) If the President were simply allowed to make a Cabinet, there would be a Cabinet. We've offered a Cabinet and it was voted down.

5) We in the CWA pointed out how important it was to fill the Cabinet some time ago - but we can't force it it happen.

6) We do not believe that all parties are willing to work together. We think we can probably find common ground with most of the major parties, but there seems simply no advantage to us trying to form a working Cabinet with parties that are not willing to work with US.

The CWA is going to push a Cabinet bill to the floor for the purpose of discussion. We are going to vote against THIS bill.

MessageThe RNC is correct.

A bill takes 9 months to go from the start of voting to the end of voting. Our election cycle is currently already only 2 years. The constant interim elections make it all but impossible to get anything done.

MessageTo the LPP:

The CWA wants to point out that - even though we do put forward a candidate for the Presidency - the decision is made by voters. In the last election, 55% of voters picked our candidate in the second round.

What the LPP is doing isn't democracy - it's vindictive.
