Bill: The Trade Union Legislation
Details
Submitted by[?]: Partiya Koumoullosia Republika
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 4167
Description[?]:
Our party calls for a new bill to make trade unions voluntary. We live in a great nation that allows freedom of choice and speech. While trade unions protect the rights of workers, I call for trade unions existing, but are not enforced on workers. They must have the option to join one or not. In some lands a closed shop trade union is illegal and this type is on a national scale! Trade unions are important, but people's civil liberties must be protected. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Government policy towards labor unions.
Old value:: Trade unions may exist and all workers must have membership in one.
Current: Trade unions may exist and worker membership is voluntary.
Proposed: Trade unions may exist and worker membership is voluntary.

Message | This would simply not deter closed shops. For one, the legality of closed shops are decided by local governments therefore this is not "on a national scale" and furthermore if people leave trade unions closer shops will become more prominent, not less. This is because if all workers are memebers of trade unions, unions cannot threaten or exploit non-members into joining and therefore closed shops cannot exist due to the fact that there are no non-union members. I suggest that before you propose a bill you check up on the laws currently in place and thoroughly evaluate the effects they have and how your proposed bill will impact or influence them. --------- Grigori Vikhrov, Chancellor of the NRP |

Message | If government imposes compulsory membership, this takes away freedom of choice for the individual, in a similar way closed shops took away choice in certain industries. For one, national government controls local government in all democracies, so it should be national government that decides policy overall, they should have sovereignty in the end. It will be on a national scale if some workers do not want to be in trade unions. |
