MessageI thank the President for his moderate and inclusive proposal.

May this new cabinet signal a more progressive and united politics in this country, and my party expresses it's thanks that the Progressive Party has voted for this proposal, which shows that this is the best way to move Baltusia forwards.

MessageMr President,

We will look to support on the basis that the three-way coalition will bring much needed stability to the country and help us drive through the constitutional reform necessary to implement the check and balances our current system needs. However, firstly, we have several questions for our colleague the BDGP chairwoman Elyse Wood:

1) Given that your party will hold the cabinet portfolios of Infrastructure and Transport and Environment and Tourism, what will your strategy be in these areas, given that up until now your policies have been pulling in an opposite direction to those of the Right Alliance?

2) Given that the BDGP is still a member of the Left Bloc who will be the minority speaker of the house/leader of the opposition? It seems counter-intuitive that the BDGP should hold several key government departments and be the main opposition speaker in the House as well. Will the BDGP look to defer this position to one of the other Left Bloc party and or consider suspending membership of the Left Bloc for the term of this government?

I do not want to hold up the formation of this new cabinet but I think questions to these answers is required to ease worries from certain elements within our party.

Thank you,

Samson Moriarty
Majority Speaker of the House

MessageMajority Speaker Moriarty,

It is completely understandable for you and your party to have these concerns, and I will do my best to alleviate them.

1) Whilst our strategies have been quite opposite to each other, particularly in recent years, I believe that my party will be able to compromise and improve these areas without infringing on party divides.

With regards to Infrastructure and Transport, we want to be able to have a world class transportation network with infrastructure to match that. This will improve our economy in the long term so it is important that both the state and private companies continue investing at least at current levels - if not more. There will be no pressing for immediate nationalisation during this term.

As for the Environment and Tourism brief, which will be my role should this proposal be accepted. Of course it would be wrong for my party to suddenly change one of it's main ideological points - environmentalism - just because of who we're in Government with. I will continue to press for ecological protections, but will do so with recognition that co-operation with private companies is much more effective than straight out banning and constant court cases.

2) BDGP membership of the Left Bloc is not up for question - virtually all of the party supports the organisation, as do I. However, I do understand that us maintaining the role of Leader of the Opposition would be a conflict of interest. As a result, Baltusia would not have a competent or viable oppositon, and that wouldn't be in the country's interest. So, the BDGP governing body recently voted unanimously for my proposal, which will defer the position of Minority Leader/Leader of the Opposition to the second largest Left Bloc party - in this case, the RAC.

I hope that I have been able to answer your questions, and am sure your party will be able to rest easy knowing where we stand.

With that, I ask the Patriotic Party to vote for this inclusive, moderate cabinet that can take Baltusia forwards.

BDGP Chairwoman Elyse Wood
