Bill: Eminent Domain Reform Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kundrati Liberal Alliance

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 4183

Description[?]:

Eminent domain is useful for public works projects by both central and local government. That usefulness is not disputed. However, the issue of compensation should be dealt with by a more even-handed body than the government itself - especially because some parties will not have the means to sue the government if they feel they have been treated unfairly. The government could, therefore, easily abuse the system in place. We propose a neutral body appointed by the courts determines the compensation. Either party could then appeal the decision if they wished.
