Message | Mr. Speaker, That is a naive outlook on this issue. Fewer legal guns does not mean fewer instances of violent crime. A law will not stop a criminal, an individual who has no quarrel with breaking laws, from possessing and using a firearm. Allowing common citizens to possess firearms allows the people to take self-defense, should it become necessary, into their own hands. Additionally, the people may need defenses against more than criminals. For example, the people may need to defend themselves against the government itself. Stripping the people of the right to own firearms means that the only weapons in the country are concentrated in the hands of the government. This effectively robs the people of their ability to fight back against tyranny. It was not long ago that a murderous regime ruled over this nation.....we all watched as the regime slew thousands, unable to do a thing. The GMD will not allow the people to be defenseless.
