Bill: Military Awareness Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Meritocratic Progressive Union
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2186
Description[?]:
We should ensure that we may commandeer our people when they are needed to protect their country. It is very unlikely that the military will require them to get to the battlefield. But they will probably be needed to take the daily chores out of the soldiers hands so he/she can do his/her duty. |

Message | We don't think this is necessary. We live in an age of modern warfare, technological expertise is imperative for victory. It does not seem wise to have young adults drafted and pushed into combat without proper training. You can't shove someone in a jet fighter with only a few weeks of training behind him. In the event of a conflict, would we really be able to give them proper training? It is true however that ground forces can be quickly drafted, but ground forces are not really necessary. We live in a mountainous region, and we have a lot of coastline. Our military at the moment is sufficient for national defense. |

Message | Military service is NOT slavery. It is a paid career just like any other. In times of dire need, there will be reservists needed to replace combat soldiers that serve to protect the Federation so that parties like the Protectorate Party have the freedom to say that service=slavery. We wholeheartedly agree with this measure. |

Message | ok forced servitude then. A non volunteer would be almost useless in a war with the enemy at our gates. No time for training, no desire by the draftees to be there. The result would be our people would be good for little more then cannon fodder. And we are opposed to sending unwilling citizens to their death. We should do our best to encourage service and reward our veterans well for their service, but we should not resort to a draft. |

Message | Drafts would only happen in the most desperate of situations. Furthermore, training will be provided. Even in the most brutal wars, drafted units had to undergo training or they would merely be cannon fodder. We may be militaristic, however we aren't for the wholesale death of our soldiers. We'd rather have the option of protection rather than no protection of the federation. |

Message | We hardly think the capable leaders of our military will place these reservists on the front-line. They are there to assist our warriors and relief them from tiring duties and jobs that are unfit for a battle-worthy soldier. |
Date | 22:47:12, February 13, 2006 CET | From | Free Progress Alliance | To | Debating the Military Awareness Act |
Message | Why build a conscript army? Do we need so many men? Why don't we rely on a small well-equipped volunteer elite? |
