| Lorenzo Verhoeven, President of the Republic: "Hon. representatives of the Nation, citizens of the Republic, I summoned the Parliament for this speech because after long reflections and observations on the evolution of the country's internal and international situation, I have come to the conclusion that the conditions and the needs which have pushed the nation to take the necessary emergency measures to ensure the security of the territory and the citizens are about to all falling. In the light of the fact that the Anarchist Fighter Nucleus are about to be completely dismantled, recognizing that internal security in the territory has been well-assured by our armed forces, having shifted the repression action against the Revolutionary Front of Workers for the Liberation of Wantuni in the kalopian territory, following the successes achieved over the last few years against the terrorist threat and finally recognizing the deterioration of the social and political situation in the nation and the demands of large sections of the population to restore regular and ordinary political and civil rights assurance measures, I have decided to promulgate a new DEP with which to definitively put an end the State of Emergency on the eve of the next elections, which, as already ensured, will take place regularly and hence to repeal progressively the measures previously adopted By Government of National Unity and then by the Government of the Alliance for the Nation and the Republic. I therefore invite the nation's political forces to devote the next legislature to the institutional and security of the Republic normalization. It will not be among the measures to be abolished the DEP 03/4197, namely the measures taken to tackle the wantunian scandal: the Military Extraordinary Administration established in Kalopia/Wantuni will continue its mission of managing areas of Istalian interest and the commitment to finally crush the terrorist threat of the Revolutionary Front. I therefore return to you, the representatives of the nation, the special powers you wanted to grant me, sensitive to the serious social and political situation that has been created in Istalia for the last two years. For those who have wanted to criticize me and for those who accuse me of suppressing the democratic institutions and principles on which our Republic is based, I say that all that I have done was for the defense of the Republic, its citizens, Its Institutions and the Istalian interests at home as well as abroad. I reaffirm my loyalty to Democracy today, a Democracy that has been greatly threatened and I have not only wanted but also had to defend with all possible means so that it can arrive this day. They were long and difficult years for all of us, but it was worth it, we have seen the good results and for this I ask the citizens to give me a last mandate so that we can finally complete our war against the foreign enemy and to fully re-establish political, civil and social rights in the Republic for all citizens. Thank you" |
