Message | i think it creates a monopoly, driving the price of goods up, which in turn eventually shoots the economy into a downward spiral. |

Message | Also local governments should not possess so much power, they tend to be weak and have little influence in their constituency. The state knows what is best for it's nation as a whole. Also these small farms are "encouraged" to merge, they are not forced to do anything. They may still maintain their status as smaller farms with no consequences. |

Message | In China in RL, combining farms into communes was just about the only thing Mao did that actually WORKED...for example, one farm is too small to maintain a stock of pigs or one farmer does not have the money necessary to acquire draft animals; voluntary co-operatives solve the problem. It is when they are forced to merge, and neighbors must work with those they dislike that this idea fails. |

Message | I like the idea of a decentralized farming industry because it gives consumers more options - for example perhaps some citizens disagree with non-organic farm products or refuses to eat from a farm which also raises livestock. Again, I would like to hear more arguments if possible. |

Message | In America in RL, combining farms has given a triopoly (I think there's only 3 major, I may not have my facts completely straight, though) to a growing number of big buisnesses, causing small ranchers and farmers to have to close. It's all in Fast Food Nation. |
