Message | This is extraordinarily extreme legislation! At the very least the death penalty ought to be applied for heinous crimes such as murder and treason. |

Message | The focus should be on rehabilitation. Mental illness plays a part in many (some would argue all) murder cases- and it is more humane to try and find the source of the problem and combat it, rather than eliminating the problem with a bullet or lethal injection. If rehabilitation into the community isn't possible, life imprisonment is sufficient. Revenge should *never* be an excuse for punishment. We'd also like to hear your definition of treason and in what cases the death penalty applies to it. |

Message | The death penalty is not revenge, but rather a means of deterrence. While life imprisonment is also very severe, it does not ring as true with the populace as capital punishment. Though rehabilitation would be the best alternative in an ideal world, the fact is that it is often ineffective and more expensive than simple internment. Because our funds are limited, we are required to put criminals that commit premeditated acts of murder or other such heinous crimes to death. Naturally we do not wish to do this with the mentally infirm, who -can- be rehabilitated with much less cost to the state in many cases, but to those whose sanity can be established. As for the crime of treason, it would only be applicable if there were written evidence of it and/or the corroboration of treasonous acts by multiple respectable persons; if the act committed clearly was done for the interests of another state; and if any harm to Beluzia was meant to result from this act. The death penalty would need to be decided upon in each individual case, as its use would be merely an option in treason and murder and other such cases. |

Random fact: Players have a responsibility to differentiate between OOC (out-of-character) and IC (in-character) behaviour, and to make clear when they are communicating in OOC or IC terms. Since Particracy is a role-playing game, IC excesses are generally fine, but OOC attacks are not. However, players must not presume this convention permits them to harass a player with IC remarks that have a clear OOC context. |
Random quote: Although I understand and respect the intentions behind the gesture, this is not something that is universally understood or appreciated, and it tends to give out a negative impression of our party. ~ Anton Weinreich, General Secretary of the Dorvish Communist Party, pleading with his members to stop burning the national flag |
