MessageMr Speaker,

We have to agree with the Honourable member from the UPB congressional delegation. Although we are in support of secular ideas, this is a blatantly outrageous crackdown on religious liberties. Secularism is separating country from religion, not eliminating it.

MessageMr Speaker,

This is not stopping the showing of religious symbols in public but government-owned buildings where religion has no place.

MessageMr Speaker,

We have some problems with what the Honourable member has said. Say that a woman that is Muslim works in the Department of Justice everyday and because of Islamic law, she has to wear the niqab. Say that a Jewish man has to wear a cap on his head going to work at the Department of Education and Culture because of religious. Say that an Islamic man has to wear a thawb to work in the Department of Foreign Affairs. What is the problem with that? Their religion requires them to wear these types of clothing and we should allow them to do that, as their is no interference into government related work whatsoever. By banning these items, it seems as if we view these religions as 'native' and 'uneducated' and that we should assimilate them into Western culture and religion. This is not what Beluzia is. We are not a nation full of racist bigots. We are a multicultural nation that embraces all religions. Removing these religious items will not do Beluzia any good, instead it will start a race war between us and them. Do we want that to happen? No. So we suggest that the Honourable member and her colleagues rethink the BDP's policy on secularism and on their ideology in general. You say you are a centrist party, but what you are proposing is something similar to far-right ideology. Secularism does not mean banning everything religious. I question your degree of education as Minister of Education and Culture. Check the dictionary and search up the word secularism. It means 'the principle of separation of the state from religious institutions' and we believe that secularism means no discrimination against anybody in the name of religion. We ask the BDP to issue an official apology to all minority communities for having offended them and to withdraw this bill.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The Right Honorable Lady's (Cecilia Rasmussen) comments over this bill are misguided. This bill does not specifically target any religious groups, it treats them all the same. This bill does not eliminate religious rights, it only enforces a further separation between church and state. People can still practice their religion and wear religious clothing outside of government buildings.

MessageMr Speaker,

We were talking about inside government buildings. Not outside government buildings.
