Bill: PSS omnibus
Details
Submitted by[?]: Likaton Fascist Front
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2187
Description[?]:
Kristin Lund has proposed the following, in the name of personal liberation. 1. Why tie up our companies with frivilous labelling laws ? Lets loosen the obligation for unecessary listing of all ingredients in food. 2. Gated communities are the new black. We fail to see why only the private sector should be able to set up said communities. Let us allow the public sector this option as well. 3. Companies currently have to ask about getting a licence to experiment on animals. Surely a more efficient system for companies and the government is simply to put in place some minimum standards. 4. Why should we dictate the supply of labour ? If a company wants to pull a product off their shelves, they just go ahead and do it. We feel that workers should be able to remove the commodity of their labour from the marketplace, without restriction. 5. Again why should the state tell any person they HAVE to do a certain job. The individual supplying the labour has right to not supply it (and the right to starve if they don't get paid...) REMOVED>--See article 6 6. Tobacco, although an obviously unhealthy product should not be subject to this sort of regulation (we would prefer to see laws stopping children consuming the product). When children go to the corner shop for a packet of cigarettes for their parents, they should be allowed to buy them. |

Message | We agree with all except with articles 4 & 5. Article 4 would leave too much room for strike action simply as an excuse to not work, and it would put many people out of the job, even if they didn't vote in favour of secondary strike action. The current law only allows for "valid reasons", and if there are none, people who voted against the action will still be forced to and will consequently lose their jobs. However, sisters unions wouldn't be subject to it because they have enough justification fopr it. Article 5 would prevent essential services from providing to the nation. How is it beneficial for firefighters to go on strike? There would be too much collateral damage, just as with paramedics and police officers. It is also unfair to students if they are near graduation and their teachers go on a prolonged strike... there are too many repercussions if we loosen this law. However, we do agree with it in theory, though for practical reasons we can't back it. |

Message | Articles 3,4,& 5 - yes. Article 1 - complete information is essential to the consumer being able to make an informed choice; therefore it must be presented to him. Article 2 - Gated communities are, by their nature, exclusionary. It is within the rights of the private sector to create these compounds, but there is no place for this type of discrimination in the public sector. Article 6 - Children do not have the capability to make such life altering decisions as are involved in the use of tobacco. Until they reach their majority, they must be protected from themselves. |

Message | AM AAP dislikes articles 3, 5, and 6. We support the right of every worker to strike, but believe certain jobs have to be done, anyway. If AM PSS wishes to exclude that article, we can support, despite our distaste for 2 others. (Actually: if the AM PSS were to include some kind of language along the lines "All workers have the right to strike but, IN certain categories of workers regarded as critical to society, THE ARMED FORCES SHALL OFFER SERVICES to ensure a minimal service" we could support. Such language would allow anyone to strike, but puts Unions on notice that other workers WILL be provided to ensure a MINIMAL service). |

Message | We shall remove article 5 as this appears to be somewhat contentious to members of the AM. Moving to vote. |
