MessageThe military is there to defend the people and their will. The will of the people is represented by the Powers of the Nation, namely the Government, the Congress and the Judicature. A completely self-controlled military can eventually become an independent power with divergent interests with those of the people and their representatives, and even might end up pursuing a coup against the legitimate elected government.

MessageHow can we expect to our soldiers to fight and die for their country when their own goverment doesn't trust them enough to appoint there own officers based on merit and experince. Which is the norm in any efficient military. If politicians started appointing officers in our armed forces then it would not be based on merit or experince but on political capital and favours. Its prone to corruption if only the Defence Ministers friends are appointed to be military officers.
