Message | Welcome :) Please note that there's a reason it's 42 months. Despite that working out to an ICly clumsy three-and-a-half years. It's because that's exactly one OOC week, meaning that the elections happen at the exact same time every OOC week, very nicely and conveniently and easy to plan for. For this reason, we will strongly oppose any attempt to change it away from 42 months. Just for curiosity, please, why are you advocating 30 months? Not only would this (just like any figure which isn't 42) ruin the OOC convenience of having the elections happen at the same time every OOC week ... it wouldn't even make any IC sense either, being a similarly ICly clumsy two-and-a-half years. At least 24 months (two years), 36 months (three years), 48 months (four years), 60 months (five years), or 72 months (six years) would make IC sense. ... although KPJP would certainly still vote against any of them; because for me, the OOC convenience much outweighs all. We would only mildly oppose setting it to 21 months or to 84 months. The former would mean two elections per week, each at the exact same time each week. The latter, one election every fortnight, at the exact same time each fortnight. Neither of these is _quite_ as neat and clean as one-per-week, but they're clearly better than any other. Unfortunately, Particracy doesn't allow any setting shorter than 24 months, nor longer than 72, so neither of these is permitted. :( Other nations' settings at this exact moment: http://classic.particracy.net/viewvariable.php?variable=TERM_LENGTH 3 nations at 24 months (two years) 1 nation at a clumsy 30 months (two-and-a-half years) 9 nations at 36 months (three years) 1 nation at a nonsensical 40 months (three years four months) 5 other nations, plus ourselves, see the wisdom and convenience of having the elections at the same time every OOC week: ICly 42 months (three-and-a-half years) 22 nations, perhaps influenced by the OOC USA, at 48 months (four years) 5 nations at 60 months (five years) 11 nations at 72 months (six years) Only two of Particracy's 58 nations currently use a weird figure which is neither an exact number of IC years, nor an exact number of OOC weeks. |

Random fact: In cases where players introduce RP laws to a nation and then leave, Moderation reserves the discretion to declare the RP laws void if they appear to have fallen into disuse. In particular, please bear in mind that a player who is inexperienced with Particracy role-play and has joined a nation as the only party there should not generally be expected to abide by RP laws implemented by previous players who have been and left. |
