Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2063
Description[?]:
The death penalty is barbaric: its very premise is hypocritical and based on revenge, not justice. Not only that, but a miscarriage of justice will have chilling results, and the death penalty is a failure at deterrence.
Be it therefore resolved, that state-sanctioned murder should be outlawed. Death to the Death Penalty! |

From | Freedom Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | opposed as well. If you kill someone in cold blood, we will at least give you the choice of spearing, electric eel, or forced drowning. :) |

From | Democratic Socialist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | Yes, but it would have passed last term, so it's still quite a close contest. Besides, this now gives me the argument that you and PP are being hypocritical in the euthanasia bill. You are opposed to someone killing themselves, but support murder so long as it is committed by the state? |

From | Rightist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | Actually, that's not correct. If the Jury condems the man to death then its by the will of the people.
We shall oppose this bill. |

From | Rightist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | How can it be state sanctioned when:
1) He had a full and fair trial by a jury of his peers.
2) Sentenced by those same peers.
3) The appeals process upholds the verdict AND the sentence
Murderers deserve to die. |

From | Democratic Socialist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | The death penalty writes the method of the terrorist and of the murderer into law. Murder is still murder, whether or ont it is committed by the state. You can't say, "Killing people is wrong, and to show you how wrong it is, we'll kill you." |

From | Rightist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | And yet you would rather have our taxpayer dollars being spent on someone who will never see the light of day? Sorry, but I can't see the merit in that.
Besides that, this doesn't just include capital murder. It includes putting Terrorists to death as well as those that committ treason. Why should these people be allowed to live on our taxpayer dollars? |

From | Patriot Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | But our taxpayer dollars is still being used to keep them fed, clothed, AND sheltered. That kinda renders your point mute SDP. |

From | Social Dynamist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | "How can it be state sanctioned when..."
Irrespective of how it's done, if the state sanctions the murder, the murder is state-sanctioned, by definition. |
Date | 15:45:03, June 03, 2005 CET |
From | Democratic Socialist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | Due to the complex legal arguments and appeal systems, cases where the death penalty may be applied are far more expensive to run than other cases. It is also interesting to note that the PP and RP believe it is acceptbale to put a price on life. |
Date | 17:46:57, June 03, 2005 CET |
From | Rightist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | And the Freedom Party doesn't? As far as I know, they are opposed to this bill as well. Any opinions on that? |
Date | 19:43:44, June 03, 2005 CET |
From | Democratic Socialist Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | The Freedom Party hasn't put forward saving money as an excuse for state-sanctioned murder. Although he still believes two wrongs make a right. |
Date | 20:14:18, June 03, 2005 CET |
From | Patriot Party | To | Debating the Outlaw the Death Penalty | Message | why are you dodging the issue on this bill? I'm asking for this bill and not the Euthanasia bill. |
