Bill: Budget proposal of April 4254

Details

Submitted by[?]: Baltusian International Democratic Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4254

Description[?]:

Members of Parliament,

With a huge deficit and high taxes, Baltusia will need to take difficult decisions at these times - but it’s for the long term better. $11 billion BLD deficit is unacceptable, and it’s at the hands of the Left Bloc. In 4247, you were told: By the end of the lifetime of this government we will have a growing surplus of expenditure. That has not happened.

This was after an additional $100 bn BLD was pumped into the already thriving Baltusian Health Service. The health budget is extremely too high, unmatched across the Terra. It's unecessary to rack up a deficit due to money not even being used by the BHS.

For a safer economic future, support this legislation.

MessageI thank the moderates for their common sense approach to this issue, a large surplus allows us to cut taxes for all, something we are delighted about.

MessageMembers of Parliament,

Does the Baltusian Republican Party not realise that a small deficit (such as we have now of around 1.5% GDP) is necessary for a healthy economy to prevent a downwards spiral in the event of a recession.

(OOC: The current levels of health spending are realistic for a country with our population and fully nationalised health service)

MessageMembers of Parliament,

Is the Secretary of State for Finance delusional! What kind of Finance Secretary can't even calculate basic economics? A socialist!

On a serious note, a small budget surplus, not a deficit, is necessary for a healthy economy in preparation of a potential financial recession. Therefore, this will provide it.

Surplus, not deficit Miss Hambleton.

MessageMembers of Parliament,

Do the Republicans not realise that a surplus in the public sector must result in a net deficit in the private sector, which is much more likely to lead to a recession.

It is a simple mathematical fact which seems to have alluded them.

Additionally, would you call 13.1% GDP a "small budget surplus", because although you have expressed a desire to lower taxes in the future for the months it will take for that to happen our economy is in a terribly vulnerable position.

To correct your own words, deficit, not surplus Mr Brown.

Flossie Hambleton
Secretary of State for Finance

(OOC: Throughout recent history, a government surplus has resulted in an equal and opposite recession.)
