Message | It's simple economics: when a good is banned, it creates a black market for it, fraught with danger and uncertainty. Legalizing cannabis, a naturally-occurring substance that is less addictive and physically harmful than alcohol or tobacco, eliminates one such black market. The potential benefits are numerous: reduced crime, as the violence associated with the illegal cannabis trade dissipates; increased funding for law enforcement to focus on actually dangerous substances such as methamphetamine and opiates; increased sales tax revenue, a significant portion of which will go toward public health and substance abuse treatment; and more. Regulations on where and who may use cannabis will resemble those currently imposed on alcohol and tobacco. Local governments will also have the power to impose additional civil penalties for violations of such regulations. |

Message | We cannot legalise Cannabis. Imagine a bus driver, who smoked one in the morning and then go to work.. Do you think that he will be able to concentrate on his duty?? This may cause many accidents.. That is the main reason why the LRP are against the legalising the Cannabis |

Message | LRP, the same could be said of a bus driver who's an alcoholic, or addicted to painkillers. In addition, the widespread availability of cannabis means that irresponsible people, such as your hypothetical pothead bus driver, already have easy access to it. Prohibition has never successfully eliminated substance use and abuse; rather, it simply pushes it underground and feeds the prison-industrial complex by making criminals of the nonviolent, responsible majority of cannabis users. Additionally, by regulating cannabis in the same way as alcohol, the government can curtail irresponsible use through punitive measures such as civil and criminal sanctions. Employers may prohibit the use of cannabis, and drugs tests could be made mandatory for certain dangerous occupations (police, firefighters, construction workers, public transit drivers, etc.). The concerns raised by the LRP are valid--and very easily addressed. Join with the Populist Party, and let's stop punishing the vast majority of cannabis users--responsible, everyday people who know that working while stoned is a terrible idea--for the prospective actions of the irresponsible minority. |
