Bill: RP: State Voting Systems
Details
Submitted by[?]: Front Gauche (FG)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 4323
Description[?]:
Today the FG state governments in Nouvelle Orange and Bendiri moved to change those states voting systems under the newly passed clause in the state constitutions. The new voting system will be a proportional representation system, seat numbers will be determined by dividing the election results in 2, if you have numbers like 20.5, round up. If the results come out with more than 65 seats, subtract the seats from the smallest party. Example: Bendiri state in the last election. Results: 48 FG, 29 BA, 25 NCP, 22 LOP, 6 PLBS Divide by 2: 24 FG, 14.5 BA, 12.5 NCP, 11 LOP, 3 PLBS Round up: 24 FG, 15 BA, 13 NCP, 11 LOP, 3 PLBS There is an overage of one seat. If you have a situation where there are more seats than 65 after rounding up, remove the overage from the smallest party. (note if you have such an overage that the smallest party no longer has any seats and there is still an overage, remove seats from the largest party.) So the final results are: 24 FG, 15 BA, 13 NCP, 11 LOP, 2 PLBS = 65 seat legislature As the FG controls more than 2/3rds of both state legislatures, these changes will automatically go into place for the next election in Bendiri and Nouvelle Orange. |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
Random quote: "Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people." - Tenche Coxe |
