MessageCurrent income tax rates are:
> 17,000 DUM @ 18%
> 36,000 DUM @ 32%
> 55,000 DUM @ 46%

With corporate tax at 5% and luxury tax at 6%.

MessageWe support the existing rate of corporate tax but are happy to negotiate an increase in luxury tax to its old value of 10%.

On the income tax side we propose the following two scenarios:

1) Increasing the bracket thresholds:
> 21,000 DUM 18%
> 38,000 DUM 32%
> 55,000 DUM 46%

2) Decreasing tax rates:
> 17,000 DUM 15%
> 36,000 DUM 30%
> 55,000 DUM 45%

To achieve a balanced/surplus budget in either scenario luxury tax must be 10%. In addition, scenario 1 requires a spending cut 1.5%, while scenario 2 requires a budget cut of 1%. Such cuts could be achieved easily and relatively painlessly.

MessageThe SED want the tax on essential goods lowered to 0%. Tax on luxury products should stay as it is. Taxes on profits should be raised by 5%. Concerning the budget we would prefer more investments in thd economy, education and welfare.

MessageThe tax on essential goods is already 0%.

Corporate tax revenue is nominal anyway so any increase/decrease will barely impact budget bottom line. Increasing corporate tax thus serves no purpose but to punish business and encourage investment to move offshore.

If you intend to basically keep tax the same but increase spending you drive the budget into further deficit. I urge the SED to think longer-term.

MessageRaising the tax on luxury products would mostly fall on right people, but not prevent foreign and domestic investors from being interested in us.

1) -> We agree then to raise the tax on luxury items to 10%.

2) The tax brackets proposed by the FPD provide basic structure, but are too low and would require spending cuts, which we don't support. Just tax the rich a bit more.

3) We will have to lower expenditures in the defence sector and allocate it proportionally to education, industry and finance, as proposed by the SED. Just how much, should be specified by the SED, defence spending should not go under 1.5%.

Let's work on this as a unified coalition

MessageShame on us? You requested a tax cut for low and middle income earners. That is what we legislated.

If you want to address the spending side, by all means, go ahead. Be mindful your SED majority partner who would see spending balloon with no reasonable suggestion how to address this from a tax position.

Random fact: The people in your nation don't like inactive parties. When you often abstain from voting for a bill, they will dislike your party and your visibility to the electorate will decrease significantly. Low visibility will means you are likely to lose seats. So keep in mind: voting Yes or No is always better than Abstaining.

Random quote: "The two greatest obstacles to democracy in the United States are, first, the widespread delusion among the poor that we have a democracy, and second, the chronic terror among the rich, lest we get it." - Edward Dowling
