Bill: Refugee and Immigrant Protection and Admission Act, October 4303

Details

Submitted by[?]: Fileléfthero Dimokratikó Kínima

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 4304

Description[?]:

Recognizing a commitment and a responsibility to human rights of those fleeing from persecution and oppression. We applaud our colleagues in the Reform Party for their efforts to make the economic and social system more fair to migrant workers, and we plan to expand on the openness of our society therein. We propose the following:

There are no quotas on immigration. Those with the means to immigrate to the Republic of Kalopi-Siphinia shall be allowed to do so, provided they pass security screenings, background checks (if mandated by enforcing agencies,) and have preparations for work/and/or housing upon arrival.

We also propose to put no bar on refugees. All circumstances where one must flee their native land are severe. We recognize this and see it as our imperative to make refugees welcome in Kalopi-Siphinia and to ensure they can get by and find resources to prepare to resettle in their homeland once conflicts are over.

MessageMr Speaker,

We understand these reforms, and whilst a little apprehensive, are prepared to back the motion. We would however like to ask the Spokesperson to confirm his statement regarding refugees returning to their country. Would the Liberal Democrats support the return of refugees to their origin nation should the natural disaster or conflict that caused them to flee come to an end?

MessageMr. Speaker,

To address Minister Halilovic's question, yes, we would. It is within the language of the Introduction to the bill and we intend to support it therefore, pending any amendment, as it is successfully enacted into law. Our position is that refugee status should not be permanent, as it is necessary for both humanitarian and bureaucratic reasons to separate immigrants from legitimate refugees. We are committed to re-settlement of refugees in their native lands.
