| Mr. Chairman, I hope it will be remembered and appreciated that as a general rule, the Communist Party does not propose or support early elections unless it sees a very good reason for them. We are proposing an early election now because of the disgraceful efforts by certain parties to introduce extreme, theocratic laws which would seriously jeopardise the civil liberties and freedom of expression of citizens who do not subscribe to a certain set of Hosian religious beliefs. I sincerely call upon the Democratic Socialist Union to consider this issue very, very carefully. We understand why they previously persisted with their alliance with the TGP...but surely that alliance is no longer possible. The basic rights of our citizens are at stake.
