| Members of the National Assembly, I wish to debate the way this house views the wearing of religious symbols and clothing. Are we, in our pursuit of a secular society, being too zealous in our current approach which bans those in public office from wearing such artefacts or garments during their day-to-day duties? Should we instead, in our tolerant and openly multi-cultural society, be encouraging religious freedom of expression and not see it as something that creates division? It is in pursuit of this goal that I put forward the following proposal which relaxes the laws concerning religious clothing for all recognised religions. I would appreciate open feedback on this before deciding whether to put it to the vote. Zlatan Temelkido Chief Minister |
