Bill: Freedom of Movement Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Socialists of Endralon

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2063

Description[?]:

It is an utter disgrace that any country which claims to respect human rights attempts to prevent the movement of the world's citizens within its own borders. The authoritarian and inhumane laws which restrict immigration into Endralon are totally unacceptable in a democratic society and at the same time are promoting racism and nationalism which is a threat to the solidarity of the world's working class. We believe all such restrictions must be abolished in order to create a free society based on tolerance and respect and where noone is placed above anyone else simply because they are of a particular ethnic background.

MessageWe've already discussed this. No.

And this has nothing to do with "nationalism" or "racism". We have no restrictions on immigration. We're only asking that people who want refugee status actually prove that they are refugees. If they turn out not to be refugees after all, they can immigrate through the normal channels.

MessageThe bill concerns whether people are "welcome" in Endralon, implying that they are either allowed into the country or not since there aren't any proposals concerning immigration in general. If we have no restrictions on immigration as you suggest then the arguments you put forward in order to get the restrictions passed originally are irrelevent.

MessageYour argument for placing restrictions on refugee status was that if we allowed everyone into Endralon the population would grow too quickly and this would damage the economy. The status of people actually has very little to do with the numbers arriving in the country so you were therefore considering the bill as also concerning immigration policy which you are now denying.

Messagerefugee's skip the immigration process which takes into account things like whether our country is about to explode at its seams from overpopulation , we allow them this because they are suffering from extreme circumstance . I wish there was immigration legislation , and if I had more time Id but a proposal in for it on the forums , If we could have a policy on immigration it would be to allow the immigration of any willing worker into endralon providing they do not pose a threat to the current workers of endralon , we've got to live in the real world hypothetically I'm sure even the DSE would halt immigration if twice our population turned up on our doorstep , we simply couldnt support them and we would be damning them as much as our own current citizens. I don't believe in restricting immigration for any nationalist authoritarian or racist reason , only the utilitarian reasoning that conducting an act that harms everyone (such as overpopulating endralon) can't be sensible. That said endralon isnt overpopulated at the moment so I would expect a near open doors immigration policy at this minute.

MessageI had SEVERAL arguments for placing restrictions on refugee status, one of which was that if we allowed everyone into Endralon the population would grow too quickly and this would damage the economy. Specifically, I pointed out that if we were to take in everyone who would otherwise die of hunger (20,000 people every day), our economy and society would collapse, and that wouldn't be good for anyone - Endralonians OR refugees.

Their character, their habits, their appetites undergo a complete transformation when torn from their soil in field and forest.
