Bill: Private Media

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Forwardist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2063

Description[?]:

We are of the strong opinion that an independent media, with no ties whatsoever to government, is one of the foundations of freedom.

When the media is allowed to question the government without fear of reprisal, it is the surest indication that the people, too, may have their voice heard without fear of government reprisal.

We hereby submit a proposal to cut the strings between the government and media.

Freedom of thought should not be tainted by a paycheck.

MessageThe government paying the people who tell the citizens what to think is a step backwards for all parts of society.

MessageThat's what I thought at first, NFP.

Then I realized that we NEEDED one of these. Sure, the news may be a bit biased, but think of the groups that will finally be represented. If only Rich christians from Utagia can create Television stations of any importance, what will happen to the Poor Muslims from Agathion? Or any other minority for that matter? At least under this, everyone will have a fair say.

(Also, NFP, do you REALLY think that PBS is trying to tell the citizens what to think? And do you think people even WATCH C-SPAN?)

MessageThe government has no reason to be involved in the media, this is simply a waste of funds. For once we agree with the NFP.
