"Mr Speaker,
this bill is saying one thing: neither the education is considered as a right today in istalia. For years we are seeing the destruction of the most basic Human Rights, which indeed are trasformed in privilege for which we need to pay. But, worse, not only our citizens have to pay, but they have to pay the tax to, indeed, funds this or that private school, and of course, we already can immagine who would be the first schools which would receive such subside. Eletist and privileged schools... in perfect ULD style!
What a shame! If this bill should pass, we are ready to bring on the street millions of people! Millions! We will block the nation!"

MessageJafar Gani, ULD:

There are also free private schools, and the bill clearly states that disadvantaged students are given vouchers... This will just make education less expensive for the state. Also, we will annul student debt, something that you support. Or do you? To all LP voters, if there are still any left, which is doubtful if we are to look at your recent election history, here we can clearly see that the LP is treacherous and opposes reforms which they declared to support.
Can we please know why our PNI colleagues decide to vote against this bill?

MessageSaajid al-Rassi, PNI/PNP Whip,

We vote against this bill for:
1) This is the largest point actually, as we have pushed for a very long time to relieve the taxpayer from higher education. and pushed for the loans system which in our opinion is the fairest as one pays for their own 'higher' education if they so choose. We will never backtrack on that and is the major reason why we vote against this bill as a whole.

2) Private school funding is just unfair, as not only may it result in elitist favouritism as describe by the honorable LP colleagues, which to be honest is the least of our concerns regarding this proposal, but it also unnecessarily interferes with the free market and competition, especially because it is a case by case basis. It is also a waste of funds as we have a public education system if you look at this bill separately - obviously, in combination with Article 3 it makes sense but there we have our issues as well.

3) Fully privatising education, ie. including primary education and pre-school, may be problematic for the ideological reason that unlike university students, children in primary education are not capable of consent AND they MUST attend school until a certain age before they may drop out. Hence, they do not have a choice and must consume the product, which is the provided service of education. This results obviously in an immense demand for education and if in this case, we leave everything to the free market, then suppliers will increase prices as they please. Demand for education is very price inelastic because it is compulsory in this country - which, I think no one will argue here, is a good thing. Hence, we need public education to act as an alternative, free option which keeps prices for private education under control and compensates for the fact that the Istalian people have to 'consume' education until a certain age.

4) Well, public schools must have a compulsory national or regional curriculum to ensure unity of the nation and equal standards for all public students.

MessageJafar Gani, ULD:

1) As I've mentiond, this new set of laws will cost less, so the taxpayers will be more relieved, and our youth won't be in debt.

2) Funding will be given to innovative and promising new schools to start up.

3) Children can change schools.
