| Message | Ms Speaker, We are alarmed at the economic illiteracy of the Tea Party and unfortunately the HSU and NRP. Introducing this legislation will end disastrously. It will see the total tax take rise from 342,638,905,972 MRD to 618,993,000,000 MRD. That's a massive 276bn increase of which will come from predominately low incomes. This will also lead to a massive reduction in consumers spending and shrink the economy massively leading to fewer jobs, more poverty and economic disaster. We have consistently argued for a sensible strategy of deficit spending in order to inflate the economy and slowly introduce new tax measures and spending reductions to balance the budget. The government's economic advisors are now forecasting a 4% - 7% decline in GDP and business leaders are preparing to take their businesses oversea's. Not only has the government begun capital flight but it has also condemned working people to a life of lower living standards, lower wages and fewer opportunities. This bill will shrink the tax burden on the richest citizens by up to 24% and levy more burden on lower incomes at a rate of 6%. Ms Speaker, we will not stand by and watch the economy be transformed into a basket case for the elite few. We will not support the governments charge for equality and fairness. And we certainly will not be part of any future government with the TP. They can kiss their electoral success goodbye after this bill passes. I just hope the HSU and the NRP see sense before their parties are also dragged down by it. |
