Description[?]:
It is a national scandal that tax payer money is diverted away from state schools and given to private schools, entrenching the class system and starving other schools of much needed funds. We propose to end this procedure and to give the recouped fund to state schools. Children within the private system also need protection to ensure they receive a good standard of education. At present, the regulation for private schools is lower than that for a nursery. We want to end this. We also wish to see an end to selective schooling. For a healthy society it is important for children to mix and integrate with one another. Setting and ability steaming within a school in right and proper to effectively teach and challenge students, but to send children to 'better' or 'worse' schools based on test scores is wrong. All schools should be for all children. Finally, we propose the government create and fund more sports clubs and facilities to improve the health and wellbeing of our nation's children. Currently these sports clubs are all privately owned and run, excluding working class children from participating. Jon Healey, Luthori Workers' Committee |
