Bill: Hate Speech Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Movement

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 4378

Description[?]:

The growth in racist extremism in recent years has brought us to a point where we feel it is necessary to propose a law against hate speech. It is intolerable that ordinary citizens should be intimidated and victimised by racist zealots, determined to create a climate of fear and hatred with their bigoted rhetoric.

MessageMr Bachelot,

What do you classify as hate speech because, surely calling me a racist is hate speech and then saying my truthful comments which I believe in are racist is also hate speech?

MessageAs examples of hate speech, I would refer the Honourable Gentleman to the comments he made so recently about Canrillaise, Kalopians and Ahmadis.

MessageLabour will never stand behind an act of which limits the freedoms of the people. History has shown that forbidding people to do things only makes them do it more. This is a system of which could be abused by personally interpretation of hatespeech, or simply opinion on what counts as true and false. We already have anti harassment laws. We need no more.
