Bill: Election Representation for the Yeonguijeong
Details
Submitted by[?]: People's Socialist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 4389
Description[?]:
For too long has the position of Yeonguijeong been a member of the Empresses bloodline and not representative of the people of our nation, giving more power to the Empress and drowned out the voice of the people in our nation. We propose the position of Yeonguijeong will be taken by the largest elected party and not a member of the Empresses family unless the "Imperial Tradition Party " is the most popular party at the time |

Message | Dear Speaker, The position of Prime Minister will not always be a family member. It was coincidental with Prince Tae Kyo being the strongest member of the ITP for the role. We want to assure you it was not a deliberate step The way you think is very evil. It should be based on our coalition partners and who you can work with. Just because your the largest party doesn't mean you will be in government which we have been in that position as well as many others in our time. You should identify as a coalition which party deserves which roles rather than doing it on a popularity contest Your words are very treasonable and looks like you are trying to scrap the monarchy. We suggest you tread carefully. Your next actions could bring on consequences Melanie Park Conservative Party Leader |

Message | Dear PSP, What the conservatives have said is correct. My immediate predecessor was not a blood relative of royal family. I was rather surprised when I was nominated for the position back in 4363. Today I am an Old Man of 88 and actually going to retire but I will wait after the election of 4390 so to insure a smooth transition to next government. As for "not representative of the people of our nation" I must inquire when I became a member of another people? My family are of Kyo Heritage(the indigenous nation of Dankuk), as are over 60% of the populace, and my family has been instrumental in efforts at peace between the nations in Dankuk so we are intrinsically linked to history and culture of Dankuk. You must also take note that the Empress was formally vested her powers in a plebiscite with support of 99.85% of the body politic. Practically the entire nation voted for the Empress. Regarding your proposal, I do welcome your input, but do take note that popularity does not translate into morality. Dankuk's citizenry needs moral leadership, not just popular ones. States derive their legitimacy from more than simply Popular legitimacy(Way of Man), there are Historical-Cultural legitimacy(the Way of Earth) which deals with the political culture most in harmony with the heritage of the country(in Dankuk's case Parliamentary Monarchic tradition and indigenous form of government), and there is Sacred Legitimacy(Way of Heaven) which deals with what is most in harmony with absolute moral truths(i.e. Murder being wrong, honouring the spirits, relatives, respecting authority etc most of this is fulfilled by the Empress). The checks and balances of these legitimacies is what is needed to keep a state functioning harmoniously, insure the general liberties of people, and promote what is right in the world. Too much popularity principle leads to neglecting morals and historico-cultural continuity. Too much moral absolutism can lead to oppression of persons in their private lives. Now that aside how does one measure popularity? Measuring by largest party in Senate is troublesome as it only represents those who voted for that faction(not everyone votes) and people's minds change from one day to next(how do we honour future and past people with only popularity of present?) One can rig an election to favor any outcome they want based on how votes are counted(first past post, median voter, least negative votes etc.) The established precedent is that Parliament selects the Yeonguijeong from a list of candidates submitted by various civil servants from the various parties and the Head of State(the Empress) confirms their appointment. In the past we had two heads of state(a monarch and an elected President) but the popularly elected presidents usually launched coups and other forms of disorder as they were usually from opposition party and had corruption issues(one was a philandering embezzler, another a psychotic conspiracy theorist, a secessionist, an authoritarian communist, and another a Brutal Tyrant who proclaimed himself "God-Emperor"). It caused alot of confusion, especially when they fought with Prime Minister or the Monarch. To allow for minority opinion, the shadow cabinet was formed to critique the cabinet in power. Coalitions are better way as they promote most harmonious and it has been my duty to try to include every party in parliament in my cabinets so they feel involved as much as possible and to weigh everyone's arguments before a final decision. I recommend your party to take some time to meditate and think on the affairs of moral government so you don't make a mistake, although as good natured as you may be. Do be wary of populist feelings. A proper balance must be maintained for happy harmony. To other parties, While the comments by the PSP are concerning....They haven't exactly done anything illegal(Lese Majeste Law is no longer in place to discourage criticism and politicization of monarchy like they are doing now), so I have no legal grounds to punish them for treason. I do disagree with their statements and see them as insufficiently legitimate though. Now if their statement is 'sedition' then perhaps the individual(s) can be censured under that grounding, so I authorize the Minister of Justice Alma May from DNP, Shadow Minister of Justice Xavier Lui from Conservatives, and various Legal Counsel to Investigate the matter fully and we can review their findings in this chamber. Signed Prince Tae Kyo, Yeonguijeong |
