MessageLiberty believe there is room for the free choice of euthanasia but it must come with serious stipulations and a rigorous system of checks and balances so people are not unduly coerced into ending their life. We will abstain for the time being.

MessageIsn't the most important role of the medical profession is to cure, not to kill? It's absurd to have doctors interfering in this area, its completely against their call of duty.

MessageWe agree here with Liberty, that's why we want to change it to make sure that consent is given from the doctors. It would be the doctors role to, offer other services if mental illnesses or anything curable would be the reason for someone's will to euthanize themselves. However we don't see the need for terminally ill patients to be suffering if they don't want to and we should be allowing them a dignified death.

MessageReply to the BCP: The doctor's main role is to make sure the patient's wishes are granted. No Doctor should be left with a suffering patient who is terminally in pain, and not have any way of helping that individual.

MessageLiberty believe the doctors main priority is to find a cure. When none is forthcoming we believe it is the right of patients to decide, without pressure from anyone, how they want to proceed with their care. One of those options may be to end their life. Whether we like it or not people do seek suicide, for various reasons, and always will. A big part of the equation that is often overlooked is the mental will to fight your disease, disfigurement or disability. It isn't just about physical pain. In fact often cancer patients in hospice care are not "in pain", as such, owing to the drugs they are given to keep them specifically pain free to the end. A patient may also choose to starve themselves to death, or refuse treatment altogether, so why not offer them an "easier" option which may involve less trauma for either loved ones or strangers who involuntarily become involved in the struggle.

This is a very difficult issue. Liberty will be voting yes and have the utmost respect for the real people in debilitating positions. We don't presume to speak for them nor think a simple piece of legislation will solve the issue comfortably for everyone. Or make it easier to decide. We are simply creating another avenue for them to consider.

MessageUFOB - no that isn't the role of doctors at all. If a patient wants to take powerful painkillers if they want them the doctor will not allow them if its not appropriate to their treatment. Doctors aren't 'yes men', their profession is about curing people.

Random fact: It is the collective responsibility of the players in a nation to ensure all currently binding RP laws are clearly outlined in an OOC reference bill in the "Bills under debate" section of the nation page. Confusion should not be created by displaying only some of the current RP laws or displaying RP laws which are no longer current.
