Message | Herr Präsident, I rise to respond to the bill offered by the Labour Parliamentary Party. While we are happy to end the registration on the basis of race or religion, the salary cut for politicians and the liberalisation of multiple citizenship laws and are receptive to a review of the system of campaign finance, we are not exactly keen on an end to hereditary nobility or an abolition of the government's role in asking the conferral of these titles by the head of state. These titles are often commemorations of lifetimes of public service that run in the family and if they confer only minor rights, there is no harm in letting hereditary titles stay hereditary. After all, this is what distinguishes it from the knightly orders. It would not do to make all types of peers into the equivalent of various ranks of barons-for-life. sehr ehrenwerter Clemens Heumayr MdR Staatsminister |
