Bill: SLE - Police Equipment Act 2199
Details
Submitted by[?]: Shalom Lechem v'Eretz Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2199
Description[?]:
There is simply no need for the police to carry military-grade equipment. We rarely have any cases involving heavily-armed crime rings, and even when such a situation arises, current legislation allows for military support to police operations. In time-critical police operations where mobilising a military unit is unfeasible, a suitably-equipped Special Operations Group shall come into existence under the auspices of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Let's stop wasting money on assault rifles for regular policemen when a quality sidearm is more than adequate. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The weapons used by police forces.
Old value:: Police officers carry military-grade equipment.
Current: Police officers carry military-grade equipment.
Proposed: Police officers may only carry standard firearms apart from specially trained firearms units.

Message | Well, but where is the matter with some StG 44 in the weapon shelve in police office? Considering the fact some delegates of the VBS are trying to undermine our Empire to install a fascitic power the police should be able to react on them in a short time period without the long discussion to get some help from the military. |

Message | Nope, but interesting how you attrackt criminal voters... |

Message | With the IPS objection in mind, we support this bill, as it allows for special police units with military grade weaponry to swiftly react in times of emergency. However, in normal operations, a police officer walking the street only needs a standard sidearm and a nightstick, not an uzi and a bandolero. Christ! To view today's street scene throughout the country, one would have to conclude that we're under foreign occupation! |

Message | IPS, the Special Operations Group will remain heavily-equipped to bridge the gap between police and military in that contingency. |

Message | Well, then we support you proposal. |

Message | What really matters is that the police have good weapons: good quality, and the right kinds, whether "military grade" or not. But I think placing them under the vicissitudes of how "standard firearms" is defined will result in shifting standards and thus poor training and expensive waste. |
