State of the Nation 4413

Dear Colleagues,
Dear citizens of Gaduridus,

This cabinet has been installed in 4410 with the intent of bridging the political divide between progressives and conservatives, with the sole aim to strengthen the nation of Gaduridos. Now, almost four years later and with general elections on the horizon, it is time to look back and tell the citizens of Gaduridos what we did for them.
For a start, the O’Hara Cabinet has been able to reform our income tax system. We are glad that we now have a tax system in which the low and middle incomes benefit, and the wealthier classes pay more in league with their earnings. We thank all the parties for the supermajority this proposal received, since no party voted in opposition.
We have also crafted a new national budget, in which we have allocated more funds to crucial elements of our society. Trade, industry, infrastructure, foreign affairs and tourism have al received more funds. The results of this have become apparent: a national budget that’s balanced, and a surplus that’s big enough to survive economic woes and crisis. With this, we have made Gaduridos a national that’s ready for the future.
The Cabinet has supported a CAG-proposal concerning National Bank oversight. the National Bank of Gaduridos is now under the direct oversight of the Minister of Finance, ensuring better protection and inspection from the government on our monetary and financial system.
Most importantly, however, we have achieved in the tasks of uniting progressives and conservatives on the basis of dialogue and compromise. We hope that this dialogue will hold after the next elections. We thank Go Gaduridos and Striving for Gaduridos for the open-minded acceptation of the PCP and negotiations outside of the Cabinet chambers. We thank the Green Progressive Alliance for their bridging task and open minded push for negotiations. We thank the Progressive Conservative Party for their courage in stepping into a coalition that was not automatically their favorite.
We hope that the next elections will be fruitful for all parties, and pave the way for a new cabinet that can continue what this cabinet – and the opposition – have achieved together.

Kind regards,

Neil O’Hara
Prime Minister of Gaduridos

MessageThe Prime Minister managed to speak a lot, but say nothing. Actually, all that the Prime Minister just pointed out means one thing, and one thing only: we could have moved further. We could have strengthened the working class. We could have made Gaduridos a fairer country to live in. But, due to the constraints of this "center block", we didn't.
I would like to point out one example: The filthy rich of Gaduridos pay only 16% in taxes. This is absurd. Even if dialogue was achieved, which the GCP praises, even if compromise was achieved, there are some things we cannot overlook. Overall, this cabinet has been the cabinet of the "possibility", but never the cabinet of the "achievement". I hope the next one will be a cabinet of true progress, of true achievement.

Random fact: There are two countries based on Egypt in the game. Cobura is based on modern Egypt with a retro twist, while Hawu Mumenhes is based on Ancient Egypt with a modernist twist.

The lessons of history are clear and portentous. If you do not turn onto politics, politics will turn on you." - Ralph Nader
