Voting deadline: October 4421

Description[?]:

Madam Speaker,

We rise today to introduce legislation that would allow for Institutions of religion to set up and operate privately ran religious schools for people of faith to attend. Parents should be free to choose to allow their children to obtain a religious education if that is their desire. It is our belief that they should be free to do this without heavy interference from the government.

Concerning basic academic standards it already the law in this country that, for private schools, a basic academic standard be met. However, we believe that beyond these standards, beyond ensuring that that children are able to meet basic academic standards, any form of regulation is a step too far.

If church or other institutions of religion are able to ensure that these academic standards are being met then we believe they should be able to operate a school or place of learning without further interference from the government.

With that, we yield back the floor.

MessageThis law actually exempts religious schools from the regulations that exist.

The proposal made by our friends the Hosians clearly says "with no regulations."

There is an option that would allow the ability of the government to regulate religious education , but this was not the option selected by our Hosian Friends.

The SP will not authorize the government to remove regulations on religious education. We cannot have Kalistani children being taught completely false things, like the notion that Terra is only 2000 years old, for example.

Perhaps the Hosians will withdraw and allow religious education to be regulated the same way that private schools are. The Socialists would be inclined to support that legislation.

We yield our time back.
