Message | The Unión Demócrata Republicana Confederal will not support this bill because it supports Caillean capitalism, a socioeconomic model strongly inspired by social democratic ideas and the tradition of Aurorian Patriarchal Church social teaching. This socioeconomic model has both a material and a social, or human, dimension. The Alianza Conservadora Progresiva seems to forget that the state must have a role in the economy to protect the competitive environment from monopolistic or oligopolistic tendencies. The UDRC pursues an economic system that would not only help the wealthy but also care for the workers and others who might not prove able to cope with the strenuous competitive demands of a market economy while protecting the economy from a state claiming the right to direct the economy or to intervene in it. We believe that the economy, society, and polity need to be structured but not dictatorial. The economy must be a freely chosen order, not a command order. We believe in an economic system that supports an extensive social welfare system, while protecting our citizens against irregularities in economic cycles and for shifts in world production, by sheltering and supporting some key sectors and industries and becoming a force for economic renewal. The Caillean capitalism has the best of both worlds by being both conservative and dynamic. It is conservative in the sense that it draws on the part of the Egelian tradition that envisages some state role in the economy and a cautious attitude toward investment and risk-taking. It is dynamic in the sense that it is directed toward growth. The UDRC believes in the benefits of combining the virtues of a free market system with the virtues of a social welfare system. |
