Date | 13:42:48, July 20, 2018 CET | From | New Liberal Alliance (NLA) | To | Debating the Selective Education Act |
Message | The New Liberal Alliance supports a system of two-tiered education, which we believe allows educational institutions to cater better to students of all ability levels and lets those students work at their own pace. We believe this is a more efficient system. The NLA is therefore presenting the Selective Education Bill to the National Assembly. Zandra Arnold Leader of the New Liberal Alliance |
Date | 14:17:35, July 20, 2018 CET | From | Socialist Party of Kalistan (SPoK) | To | Debating the Selective Education Act |
Message | Would the selective schools be on the National curriculum or does the Leader believe these selective schools would be privatized, specifically for elite students, who may be selected based on income? |
Date | 15:34:36, July 20, 2018 CET | From | New Liberal Alliance (NLA) | To | Debating the Selective Education Act |
Message | The New Liberal Alliance is fully supportive of a national curriculum. While an NLA government would consider private education, this is not what is being proposed. |
Date | 23:29:16, July 20, 2018 CET | From | Socialist Party of Kalistan (SPoK) | To | Debating the Selective Education Act |
Message | If the curriculum is the same at both selective schools and non-selective schools, what is the benefit then to students of selective schools? |
Date | 23:30:50, July 20, 2018 CET | From | New Liberal Alliance (NLA) | To | Debating the Selective Education Act |
Message | We see it less as a benefit for one tier, but both tiers would have students able to work at their own pace rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. |
Date | 23:41:59, July 20, 2018 CET | From | Socialist Party of Kalistan (SPoK) | To | Debating the Selective Education Act |
Message | We could see how this could work and conform to socialist ideology. If the Leader stipulates that 1) the National Curriculum will still be in place at all schools, 2) That schools may adopt, as they wish, a tracking program designed to prepare students either for college, or for trades or for fine arts or other specific fields, and that 3) No student may be excluded from school based on income, ideology, or social situation, the Socialist Party would be willing to support this bill. |
Date | 00:13:44, July 21, 2018 CET | From | New Liberal Alliance (NLA) | To | Debating the Selective Education Act |
Message | The New Liberal Alliance accepts the Socialist amendments, and requests that the bill be put to a vote. |

Message | Actually, the way this is worded is problematic. I mean that there should be no prohibitive tuition at any school. Article c just guarantees that all students may go to SOME school. I meant that tuition to the school should not be levied in a way that a student who would be otherwise qualified cannot go because tuition is or some other economic characteristic is what is taken into account. My goal was to avoid the development of "rich kid school" which selects kids out based on economic or other social characteristics. We will oppose this bill, but as a sign of good faith, offer a similar bill which explicitly excludes selection based on economic or social characteristics, and makes the selection purely meritocratic. |

Message | The New Liberal Alliance is in agreement with this amended definition, and will vote for the amended bill. |
