Description[?]:
Florian Law on the Free Market Senators, Selucia enjoys the benefit of a cooperative economy, where capital is subordinate to labor and most economic sectors are democratically owned and managed by their workers. This however means that our economic system requires private property, because otherwise we are faced with the choice between inefficiency or bureaucratic interference. Given that our current legislation permits the bureaucracy to intervene whenever a firm faces bankruptcy, we find ourselves facing the "soft budget" problem, whereby firms have an incentive to engage in risky behavior secure in the knowledge that they will be rescued by the state. In order for a cooperative economy to function, we need a free market, which means that worker-owned firms should be allowed to fail. Failure after all provides valuable information, delivering a social good for the cooperative economy as a whole, namely better goods that people want at a price they can pay. We thus propose to eliminate all government interference in the free market and permit our democratic firms to fail. The market is not inherently tied to capitalism, it is a tool that can be used either to undermine or to support and strengthen the cooperative economy. If we break free from the myth of the ideological connection between the market and capitalism we can design our free market to enhance a democratic, flexible, and innovative cooperative economy that serves the common good. Random fact: Players consent to the reasonable and predictable consequences of the role-play they consent to. For example, players who role-play their characters as committing criminal offences should expect those characters to experience the predictable judicial consequences of that. |
