Bill: Political Campaign Financing Act, 4464 (Ustawa o finansowaniu kampanii politycznych, 4464)
Details
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 4465
Description[?]:
If passed, this law will make the private donation limit from Campaign Finance Reform Act of 4459 obsolete, as well as strictly limit the yearly sum of public funds that a political party may recieve in total (including personal subventions for the candidates of a specific party) to 2,600,000 VPO. We propose this bill as we believe that it is ridiculous not to let people support some popular political candidates when they are willing to do this. Speaking of corruption - the present law doesn't work the way you would like to, big agents will always find their way to influence the political scene; instead, this law affects the normal citizens, who perhaps would not like to lavishly pay for the politicians they do not agree with, by the way. |

Message | Mr Marshall, With respect, the Hon Member's argument is completely misleading and wholly based on inaccuracies. No one stops any person from supporting a political candidate, there is simply a limit to the amount you can donate. "Big agents will always find a way..." This cynicism doesn't mean that we should try and fix the system. And you are wrong to say that this pays for politicians' salaries. Only elected politicians really get any salaries and that is directly from the public purse. I earn an income as a Member of the Sejm and Finance Minister. I earn no income for running in elections. Perhaps that is how it works in Reforma but not in any party I know of. The law hardly affects any "normal citizens". Very few Valruzians donate anywhere near 1,000 peso to a political party. I trust that I have satisfactorily dismissed all these supposed arguments. For the record, Razem would support raising the limit to no more than 5,000 peso.
