Description[?]:
Mr Speaker, What we have seen in recent centuries is that people who cannot afford to buy their first house in the real estate market are marginalised in society by tenants that seek to extrapolate a maximum amount of profit from their basic need to live somewhere. The free market here fails, as it often does, as it fails to take into account that people may wish to live where they grew up or near the family or near the best job for them. In fact, on this last point, is it not counterintuitive that we would financially barricade someone from living in a more expensive area when the better job opportunities for them could result in a better wage that can *afford* it. It is simply unfair to say to them 'go live somewhere cheaper' when their geographic mobility is incredibly limited. Hence, we must institute rent caps to provide a fairer playing field for all Hutorians in the housing market. - Satomi Klausen (HS-RO) Hutori Socialists spokesperson for Health and Social Services |
