Message | Mr. Speaker, this flagrant undermining of worker's rights is stripping the working class of their pride. It is clear that this proposal is trying to take away the control the government has on the rights of this very large group of citizens. The proposal wants to take away the right for children to learn a profession and to perform activities in the economical and industrial life. This means as much as taking away opportunities for these nearly adults to show the abilities and knowledge they have experienced. Might I add that these children are well protected by the government. Secondly, it is the government that fulfills the role of referee in the negotiation on working hours. This gives the workers a powerfull tool against employers that wish to misuse their workers. If we would adapt the law change proposed, local governments could make decisions without contacting or consulting the workers, and it would mean that different rules apply in different regions. Finally, the government does not approve strikers being fired. LWA does not approve of that. But in some cases we can not allow wild strikes throughout the nation, for example in times of crisis, disaster or war. Therefore we wish to lend to the government the tool to pressurize the employees, as well as the employers, to continue their jobs and try to reach a solution to any problem that might occur in an adult way. Without going to strike. This proposal is treacherous towards unions, it is foolish in economic aspects and it will deteriorate our economic model. Aldegonde Vandevelde Minister of Internal Affairs |

Message | Mr. Speaker, there are some procedures in Presidium, where we try to behave as civilized people and try to respect one another. Could we please apply the most simple parts of Presidium etiquette, such as identifying yourself when taking the word? And could we please do the speaker a favour and adress him as such? Andres Verwillighen LWA MP |
