Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 4525
Description[?]:
Dealing with industrial waste in a sustainable way should not be a choice for the corporations. We have formerly proposed full mandatory recycling in all situations, for all corporations, institutions and individuals. But as te biggest environmental criminals are the corporations this will be a large victory if passed. |

Message | The problem with recycling is that it's not necessarily better for the environment in every scenario. While the basic idea -- reusing materials instead of raw resources -- seems at a superficial glance to be less wasteful (as it is for a person from their individual perspective), we have to factor in all the costs associated with the recycling process: the sorting, cleaning, burning and other industrial activities, each of which comes with some environmental footprint of its own. It could thus be that in some situations using raw resources actually emits *less* waste throughout the entire life cycle of the product than when using recyclables. The Technocratic Assembly thus opposes a blanket requirement to recycle, and would instead support introducing incentives on the market which would penalize waste and let every industry figure out the most efficient way to reduce it for themselves. |
