Bill: The Central Security Forces Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Malivian Nationalist Party (Socialist)
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 4529
Description[?]:
This is a continuation of the National Unity Plan. This act will establish an internal intellegence agency called CSF or Central Security Forces, under the direct control of the Prime Minister. It shall not be answerable to the legislature or judiciary. It will have powers to arrest any seperatist, anti nationalist, or minority extremist revolutionary, dissident, or leader, after attaining a warrant from the Prime Minister. After 1 (in game) year has passed since the arrest of the person, the legislature can propose and pass a bill to liberate the person. If a simple majority is attained in that bill, the arrested person will be released. But, before the 1 year has passed, only the Prime Minister will have power to order the release of the person. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, We fully agree that there is a need to secure stability and order in Malivia, but this legislation would grant unprecedented powers to the government, and in our view would go too far in curtailing the civil liberties of our citizens. Message | Mr Speaker, The NDP agrees with the Rajutti National Party’s statement. This bill would give the central government far too much power to act as it sees fit and would remove Parliamentary oversight over the Prime Minister’s actions. We call on the Malivian National Rally to vote “no” if it has significant disagreements with the bill. I believe we are all concerned with the growing separatist movements in the country, but this is not the just or moral way to tackle this issue. This is nothing more than a gross power grab by the Socialists. Kahoda Viswan MP from Dendhadrash Parliamentary Leader of the National Democratic Party |

Message | OOC: This law includes what look to me like constitutional aspects, so presumably, under the Game Rules, it would require a two-thirds majority in order to pass. Which it falls short of... |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, it is the responsibility of players to ensure the candidate boxes on their Party Overview screens are filled in with appropriate names. If a player is allotted seats in a Cabinet bill and has not filled in names for the relevant candidate position, then the program will automatically fill in the positions with names which might not necessarily be appropriate for the Cultural Protocols. |
Random quote: "Civil disobedience. . . is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience. . Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem." - Howard Zinn |
