Chain of Command:
President of the Federation
-Prime Minister/Cabinet (advisory role)
-Federal Minister of Defence (advisory and operational role)
--Combined Defence Staff (operational role)
---Defence services (administrative role)
---Operational commanders (operational role)

Description: The President of Zardugal is the overall supreme commander of the Federal Armed Forces. They are advised on the use of the FAF by the Prime Minister and the cabinet, largely through the NGlobal and Defense Policy Council (GDPC). The GDPC brings together the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Defence Minister, and Interior Minister along with the appropriate and appointed advisers to advise the President on Defence and Security Policy.
The GDPC also doubles as a fusion production centre bringing together officials from across government to provide accurate and timely assessments to senior policy makers on pressing national security issues. The GDPC is administrative apart of the Federal Office of the President and chaired by the Global Policy Adviser to the President. Thus the GDPC has no formal controlling or operational role but provides a forum for the discussion of national security.

Below the President in the chain of command falls the Minister of Defence who exercises a variety of operational, administrative, and advisory roles. Aside from the advisory role on the GDPC, the Defence Minister also exercises exclusive administrative authority over the Ministry of Defence and some operational control over the Combined Defence Staff. The operational control over the CDS largely relates to the transmitting of orders and directives from the President to the CDS for enacting on the FAF.
Administratively the Defence Minister is responsible for overseeing the Federal Defence Service (FDS), the body of civilian civil servants who work at the Ministry, and the Federal Security and Intelligence Service (FSIS) which is the body of civilian civil servants who oversee the intelligence and security services under the MOD.

Below the MOD sits the Combined Defence Staff (CDS) which is the joint body responsible for overall coordination of defence operations and implementing presidential defence instructions. The CDS is a 1,700 man body drawn from enlisted and officers of all services and is headed by the Defense Staff Committee (DSC) which consists of the following:
-Chairman of the Defense Staff Committee of the Combined Defence Staff
-Vice Chairman
Chief of Staff of the Federal Army
Chief of Staff of the Federal Air Force
Chief of Staff of the Federal Navy
Commandant of the Federal Marine Corps*
Commander of the Zardic Coast Guard*
Commander of the Zardic National Guard*

*-Note: the Commandant of the ZMC and the Commander of the ZNG sit in advisory roles on the DSC

The CDS is composed of several joint directorates which ensure cross military cooperation for the full spectrum of defence operations:
-Joint Directorate for Defense Intelligence and Security
-Joint Directorate for Special Operations
-Joint Directorate for Strategic Planning and Operations
-Joint Directorate for Strategic Forces

Below the CDS the chain of command further divides into two components: administrative affairs and operational affairs.

Administrative affairs are the realm of the individual service branches which are responsible for recruitment, training, doctrine, and personnel services.
